Indigenous Leadership in Canada’s Energy Transition

Canada’s path to net-zero emissions by 2050 requires a transformation of the energy sector—one that cannot be achieved without the meaningful inclusion of Indigenous voices. Indigenous communities and subject matter experts bring critical perspectives on sustainability, energy sovereignty, and climate resilience, yet they also face disproportionate impacts from energy projects and climate change.

Mokwateh was honoured to lead the Indigenous engagement and drafting of a new report commissioned by the Canada Energy Regulator to inform their Energy Information Program. This report includes Indigenous perspectives from across Canada, emphasizing the need for clean energy solutions, economic resilience, and community-led development and offers actionable recommendations for advancing an inclusive and sustainable energy future.
