Jessika Berns

Advisor

Jessika is Mokwateh’s advisor in sustainable finance, impact investing and global affairs. Working with international organizations including the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and International Labour Organization (ILO), Jessika has made meaningful contributions to inclusive green transition for more than ten years.

At ILO, she supported the development and adoption of landmark Guidelines for a just transition towards environmentally sustainable economies and societies for all and was a delegate to the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP21), where just transition principles were integrated into the text of the Paris Agreement.

At UNEP, Jessika launched the Green Industry Platform and Green Finance Platform and organized more than sixty events over five years to host meaningful discussions on how to manage and measure the transition to more equitable, greener economies. She contributed to the MAVA Foundation’s Economics for Nature (E4N) project, German-funded Green Economy Transformation project and Swiss-funded Sustainable Infrastructure Project. She is perhaps most proud of her contributions to the 2016 IUCN World Conservation Congress, where members took a landmark decision to create a new category of membership for Indigenous peoples’ organizations.

Jessika holds an MA in Political Science from the University of Toronto and is alumna of the Duke Global Policy Program.
